Welcome to my 6 Inch Cakes blog
This is just a hobby page for me to catalogue my 6 inch bakes to share with friends, family and anyone who may find it useful. I am just a home baker who likes to try new recipes.
I like 6 inch cakes and they serve a family of 4 to 6 without a lot of leftovers. It is cheaper on ingredients and allows me to experiment and try more recipes in moderation. 6 inch cakes can also be baked in an air fryer which is often quicker and cheaper to run.
I hope you find something useful on my blog and if there is a cake you would like to turn into 6 inches please let me know and I will endeavour to try it!
Equipment
Everything I bake in, in one place. Each recipe links back here, so if a recipe calls for a tin you do not have you can see exactly what it is and what else it gets used for. Nothing here is expensive or specialist – most of it came from a supermarket or a cookshop.

Tins
6 inch springform tin
The one I reach for most. The sides unclip, so a set cheesecake lifts out without being turned upside down. Serves 6 to 8. I line the base only, so the cake is easier to slide off.

6 Inch Spring Form Tin. This tin is most suitable for cheesecake. Serves 6 to 8.
Two 6 inch sandwich tins
I have used these in the Ninja to bake a simple Victoria Sponge and 4 tier cakes.

6 inch chiffon tin
Tubular, with a hole in the middle and no nonstick coating, which matters – the batter needs to grip the sides to climb. Takes a 3 to 4 egg chiffon. The cake cools upside down in the tin.

6 inch 3-4 Eggs chiffon tin

5 inch square tin
I use this in the Ninja for Sticky Toffee puddings, manor cakes and sponges.

Mini loaf tin
This mini loaf tin is great for mini cakes to put in a lunch box and the sponges often freeze well.

Ovens and appliances
Ninja 9-in-1 multicooker
Most of my cakes are baked in this on the Bake function. It heats a small tin quickly and costs less to run than the oven. Every recipe lists the temperature and time I used.
Ninja 15-in-1 Smart Lid
The newer one. It runs a little hotter than the 9-in-1, so where I have used it I have noted the setting separately – the first sponge I baked in it caught on top.
Ninja air fryer
Good for crumble toppings and anything that wants a bit of colour quickly.
Fan oven
Everything here works in a normal fan oven. Where a recipe was baked that way the fan temperature is the one given.
Other kit
Stand mixer or electric whisk
For cheesecake fillings, which need whipping until properly thick or they will not set firm enough to slice.
Piping bag and star nozzle
Only for the cream on top. A spoon and a swirl does the same job if you would rather not.
Silicone cupcake cases
Scaling a full size recipe down often leaves a little batter over. These stop it going to waste.
Parchment or a reusable tin liner
I use a reusable liner in the square tin and parchment everywhere else.
Large clip-top jar
For kimchi. It needs to take a whole Chinese leaf cabbage once it has wilted down, so bigger than you think.
If there is a cake you would like scaled down to 6 inches, let me know and I will try it.
